Upgrading From A Portable Generator To A Whole Home Generator
When we went out and visited this ranch home in Abingdon, we got to meet the homeowner and let them explain to us what they were looking for. The home was around 25 years old, which isn’t very old for this area. We’ve worked in some homes that are 100 years old, so one that is a bit more updated, that uses electricity for a lot, wasn’t surprising to see they wanted backup power.
They currently had a portable generator they were using here and there. It wasn’t very big, and could only provide power to the refrigerator. With the winter approaching, they wanted to have peace of mind knowing they would have power, no matter what the weather is like outside.
They decided to upgrade their portable generator to a whole home Generac generator. There’s no need to get rid of the portable generator, as they could still use it for outside events, BBQs, and really any other time they needed a power source outside the house. They told us that they lose power a lot during the winter, and this year, they were ready to fix that problem for good.

You are also going to lose the ability to use appliances around the house like your laundry machine and your dishwasher. Eventually you may run out of hot water as well if the water heater stops running. In the short term, none of these may be a big deal, but if your power is out for over a day, this could become very problematic, and lead to some frustrating days.
