A traditional HVAC system would turn off and on, with no “low and slow” settings that would allow the system to maintain the temperature without any big fluctuations. How A Furnace Works

A furnace generates heat by burning fuel (most commonly natural gas or propane) or by using electricity. More commonly, we see fuel burning furnaces. Once heat is created, a blower fan pushes that warm air through your ductwork and into each room of your home. We have a lot of gas and oil burning furnaces in our area of Virginia and Tennessee.

These credits can provide:

Up to $2,000 for high-efficiency heat pumps
Up to $600 for high-efficiency furnaces
Up to $600 for high-efficiency air conditioners
Up to $1,200 for other energy-efficient HVAC improvements

Local utility rebates from companies like Appalachian Power are unaffected by the new legislation. Those should still be available as long as you are within their dates of eligibility.

The owners of this lovely older Federal style home in Marion VA had a 25 year old HVAC system that was consistently needing repairs. As tends to happen, when the hot weather hit, the system started working overtime, and the stress led to more break-downs. The homeowner was an elderly woman and her son was helping her maintain the property, but needed to do so from his home out of state. That made getting prompt and courteous service important as well. The frequent breakdowns were causing a lot of stress, and were becoming more than just inconvenient.

The homeowner’s son called us late on a Friday to see if we were available for service. Knowing how important this was, our helpful and experienced team went right out to help. Initially, the homeowner wanted to see how long the repair could sustain the system. After several more visits for problems over the summer, it was clear that the system was reaching the end of its lifecycle, and it was time to start considering a replacement.

We know many people out there have rooms in their home that are often too hot or too cold- no matter where you set your thermostat, some rooms, due to their location, number of windows, or distance from the heat source, just end up a little colder- sometimes too cold for comfort- from the rest of the home.

We recently replaced an HVAC system in Glade Spring, VA with a brand new Trane heat pump. It’s always interesting speaking with our customers, new and old, and hearing their unique story about how they found us. In this case, we had spoken with these homeowners years ago, but never ended up working with them until 2024!

It turns out we’d been to their home in 2019 to give them an estimate on a new generator. In the end, they decided not to install one, but still, the experts here at Complete Comfort had left a good impression, and they didn’t forget about us years later when they needed a new HVAC system!

We have installed HVAC systems and generators all around the area, Abingdon, Marion, Chilhowie, and Glade Spring. It’s no surprise when one of our generator customers gives us a call for a new HVAC system, and it always makes us proud to know that our technicians and employees here at Complete Comfort leave such a positive impression on our customers.

Deciding To Install A Trane Heat Pump

This homeowner was having trouble with their current HVAC system. They’d been using it for years, and were interested in replacing it. At first they wanted to install a new ductless mini split. They had seen them online and in some restaurants in the area, and were thinking that would be the right solution for their home.

Nate, one of our comfort specialists, went out and spoke to the homeowners. He could tell that the old HVAC system was near the end of its life, and he understood exactly why they were looking for a replacement.

He decided to give the homeowners a few options. He showed them the design of a ductless mini split system, as well as a new Trane Heat Pump system. Luckily for these homeowners, they already had ductwork in the house, so either option wouldn’t be too cumbersome to install.

After taking a look at the costs, and what they needed to keep the home comfortable all year long, they elected to install a Trane Ultimate 17 SEER Heat Pump.

Why Choose A New Heat Pump?

After deliberating, the heat pump was the direction they went in. They were also thinking of the ductless mini splits, as we mentioned before, which are simply a different style of heat pump.

The Trane Ultimate 17 that they installed is going to treat the entire home all year long. This means that it can heat the home in the winter, and then in the summer, it will be able to provide air conditioning. They wanted a year round solution that could keep them comfortable no matter what the weather is like outside.

In areas like ours in Virginia, we have to be ready for all 4 seasons. This is why heat pumps are such a popular option, due to their heating and cooling capabilities. They also operate VERY efficiently. In fact. They can reduce your electricity consumption for heating by up to 75%. In general, heat pumps are designed to reduce the amount of energy you use, which helps prolong the life of your system, and reduce your energy bills.

Heat pumps are also more environmentally friendly than traditional heating systems, that burn gas or oil to create heat. This is why heat pumps are eligible for tax credits through the Inflation Reduction Act, up to $2000. They also typically qualify for rebates depending on where you live, and how energy efficient your heat pump is!

The Installation Process And Cost Of Their New Heat Pump

Luckily for us and the homeowner, there was already ductwork installed from the previous HVAC system. We inspected it to make sure it was still in good working order, and then removed the old system. We installed the new Trane Heat Pump in a single day. The process is one we are familiar with, and fortunately one that was quick and easy for our installation team!

The homeowner decided to finance the system, seeing as they didn’t want to pay the entire cost of it up front. Their payments are $341 a month. When you factor in the money they will be saving on their new look energy bills, the cost of the new system effectively comes down a bit from there even.

They couldn’t be happier with how the new system is operating, and the cost of it all. This system should last them the next 12-20 years, and hopefully the only reason they see us is for annual service!
