We recently replaced an HVAC system in Glade Spring, VA with a brand new Trane heat pump. It’s always interesting speaking with our customers, new and old, and hearing their unique story about how they found us. In this case, we had spoken with these homeowners years ago, but never ended up working with them until 2024!

It turns out we’d been to their home in 2019 to give them an estimate on a new generator. In the end, they decided not to install one, but still, the experts here at Complete Comfort had left a good impression, and they didn’t forget about us years later when they needed a new HVAC system!

We have installed HVAC systems and generators all around the area, Abingdon, Marion, Chilhowie, and Glade Spring. Deciding To Install A Trane Heat Pump

This homeowner was having trouble with their current HVAC system. They’d been using it for years, and were interested in replacing it. At first they wanted to install a new ductless mini split. They had seen them online and in some restaurants in the area, and were thinking that would be the right solution for their home.

Nate, one of our comfort specialists, went out and spoke to the homeowners. He could tell that the old HVAC system was near the end of its life, and he understood exactly why they were looking for a replacement.

He decided to give the homeowners a few options. He showed them the design of a ductless mini split system, as well as a new Trane Heat Pump system. Luckily for these homeowners, they already had ductwork in the house, so either option wouldn’t be too cumbersome to install.

After taking a look at the costs, and what they needed to keep the home comfortable all year long, they elected to install a Trane Ultimate 17 SEER Heat Pump.

Why Choose A New Heat Pump?

After deliberating, the heat pump was the direction they went in. They were also thinking of the ductless mini splits, as we mentioned before, which are simply a different style of heat pump.

The Trane Ultimate 17 that they installed is going to treat the entire home all year long. This means that it can heat the home in the winter, and then in the summer, it will be able to provide air conditioning. They wanted a year round solution that could keep them comfortable no matter what the weather is like outside.

In areas like ours in Virginia, we have to be ready for all 4 seasons. This is why heat pumps are such a popular option, due to their heating and cooling capabilities. Luckily for us and the homeowner, there was already ductwork installed from the previous HVAC system. We inspected it to make sure it was still in good working order, and then removed the old system. We installed the new Trane Heat Pump in a single day. The process is one we are familiar with, and fortunately one that was quick and easy for our installation team!

The homeowner decided to finance the system, seeing as they didn’t want to pay the entire cost of it up front. Their payments are $341 a month. When you factor in the money they will be saving on their new look energy bills, the cost of the new system effectively comes down a bit from there even.

They couldn’t be happier with how the new system is operating, and the cost of it all. This system should last them the next 12-20 years, and hopefully the only reason they see us is for annual service!

When a homeowner gives us a call for service on their HVAC system, we know they want to get up and running as soon as possible. The owner of this lovely single family home in Marion, VA, in Spottswood Place, wasn’t getting the AC comfort she wanted, and thought she might have a refrigerant leak of some sort. We sent out one of our best technicians, Alex, to see what the problem was.

A call like this is very common, and something we are used to handling. Luckily we were able to get out and check the system out that week, and make sure this home was cool and comfortable in no time!

Diagnosing AC Issues

Alex noticed that the AC unit would kick on when it was cold, but once it got hot, it would no longer turn on when it needed to, but that using a hard start, they could get the compressor working again. This is the equivalent to the starter motor in your car starting to go, when you sit behind the wheel praying this time, when you turn the key, the thing will start when you need it to.

As they began to talk about solutions, and that it was clear that the compressor would need to be replaced at some point in the future, the homeowner asked for a quote on a new system.

Fix or Replace?

One of the toughest decisions to make on an aging HVAC system is whether it’s time to start considering a new system. As systems reach the end of their lifespan, they start breaking down more frequently and require more repairs. This can get expensive, quickly, especially if you have an older AC system using a refrigerant that is being phased out by the EPA and no longer readily available. We recently installed a new air conditioning system for a business in Kingsport, TN. One of the best compliments we can receive from a customer is when they recommend us to their friends and family. That was the case with this project, which we were happy to be a part of.

We had recently been out to a home to replace an old AC unit for a homeowner. They were so pleased with their estimate and consultation, that they decided to recommend us to her boyfriend, Timothy. He has a business in Kingsport, TN, and their supply warehouse was in need of a new cooling system.

One of our HVAC experts. Nate, went and visited Timothy’s business to see what would be the best solution to keep the warehouse cool and comfortable. When he arrived he saw that this warehouse was used to store ammunition. It’s VERY important for ammunition to be properly stored, for safety reasons, and for longevity. Extreme highs and lows in temperature are not good for storing ammunition, so the proper AC system for this warehouse was crucial for more than just feeling comfortable.

Air conditioning is one of the essential systems of your home that help you stay comfortable in the Summer. Almost everyone loves to have that AC blasting when they walk in the door from a hot day. The thing people hate about their air conditioners are the costs associated with them. I know when I was growing up, my dad waited until the very last second to turn the AC on, so he could avoid those large energy bills that come along with running the AC. I have been installing and repairing air conditioners in the area for years, from Emory to Marion, and have seen it all. From systems that haven’t had service in countless Summers, to beautiful well kept ACs that last for 20 years. In some cases, it makes sense to run the old AC, while in others, it could have actually been costing the homeowners more in the long run.

How Is Your Old AC Costing You Money?

There are certain cases where an air conditioning system works, but is subtly costing you money. In some situations, it’s obvious that the old AC is putting a dent in your wallet, and in others it may not be so evident.

Frequent Repairs

This is one of the obvious reasons. If your air conditioner is in need of repairs, it is clearly costing you money. It is inevitable that your AC is going to run into some issue over the decade plus lifespan it has, but if it’s happening often, it’s a clear sign this AC is costing you more than it should, and it needs to be replaced.

Today, no AC systems installed are going to use Freon. Most of them use cleaner, more efficient material, notably Puron. This does less damage to the ozone, and also does a better job of providing cooling.
